Although the Foundation’s primary focus is on academics, it does contribute to arts and cultural events in the territory and to some social service programs.
It has a long history of support for the Pistarckle Theater, an amateur theater production company that presents several plays each year, hosts a film series and sponsors a summer stage program for school age children and youth. Likewise, it has for years backed Arts Alive/Classics in the Garden, which brings national and international musical talent to the territory for live performances and which hosts an arts and crafts fair featuring local artisans several times a year.
Other regular recipients of Gruber Foundation support include the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John and the United Way of St. Croix; Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands; the Family Resource Center; and the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands. Over the years, the Foundation has contributed to a large number of local social service organizations.
